What is amazonite?

Amazonite is the blue-green variety of microcline, a potassium feldspar. Its colour ranges from pale mint to deep sea green, and most pieces show fine white streaks or a subtle criss-cross pattern where a second feldspar, albite, has grown through the stone. The colour itself is linked to traces of lead within the crystal structure. In crystal tradition, amazonite meaning is all about calm: it is the stone for keeping your cool.

Its name refers to the Amazon River, though how the stone came to be linked with the region is unclear. Today it is found in Brazil, Russia, Madagascar and the United States, where Colorado is known for fine crystals.
